Being Sedentary Causes Toxicity

Being Sedentary Causes Toxicity

Here we talk about how being Sedentary Causes Toxicity.

Work, sport, play- all can be physical situations. But what can happen to your lymphatic system when you suddenly cease the activity?

Some jobs can be physically taxing, others can require repetitive movement. We were coaching a lovely man recently who had ceased employment as a bus driver. In the coaching session, he asked the coach why his foot had swollen and he expressed that his life had been turned upside-down by chronic pain and issues after he stopped work.

The short answer is MOVEMENT IS EVERYTHING.

This gentleman had been using his legs in a repetitive motion while driving buses for years. This was something that his body saw as normal and now, he wasn’t doing that. So, his lymphatic system went into a shock sequence and potential blockages that had always been there (untreated and unknown to him) made themselves known when the constant movement stopped even though his movement was largely incidental (happening as a result of an activity, happening as a minor accompaniment to something else).

To explain our statement MOVEMENT IS EVERYTHING a little more- imagine a set of earbuds. You know the ones, they come with phones. The two wires are fused together by a plastic coating. This keeps the wires together, so if you twist the wires they both twist. However, you can break or snap one of the wires and the headphones will still work. Yes, they are now mono not stereo but you can still hear sound. The lymphatic and circulatory systems are just like those wires!

When we have poor circulation or conditions that impede circulation such as venous insufficiency, varicose veins, clotting issues, etc. the lack of efficient circulation then impedes the flow of the lymph (a clear-to-white fluid containing white blood cells, especially lymphocytes, the cells that attack bacteria in the blood and fluid from the intestines called chyle, which contains proteins and fats). The lack of flow of lymph can result in lymphatic dysfunction leading to what is known as lymphoedema.

Prior to identifiable lymphoedema, you may experience any of these symptoms:

  • Puffiness in the face or around the eyes
  • Swelling in the fingers
  • Carpal tunnel
  • Water retention
  • Headaches
  • Sinus infections
  • Blocked sinuses or runny nose
  • Dry or itchy skin
  • Spider veins or varicose veins
  • Constipation
  • Bloating
  • Weight gain that won’t shift (especially around the belly)
  • Breast tenderness or swelling
  • A sense of fogginess in the brain
  • Allergies
  • Food sensitivities
  • Frequent colds or flu
  • Fatigue
  • Swollen glands
  • Swelling in the ankles
  • Pain or nerve pain
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Fibromyalgia

These issues are your lymphatic system alerting you to it needing more movement. Your circulatory system has a form of movement even when you are not physically moving and that is because it has a pump known as the heart. The lymphatic system has no pump, its only way to create flow is if YOU move.

What happens if you stop moving? Your lymph becomes stagnant, toxins build up in the system. The organs of the body required for toxin filtration (the liver and kidneys) become strained and damaged and you get sick.  Toxicity itself can be from an external source or internal source.

Some effects of toxins are: poisoning of enzymes so they don’t work properly, displaced structural minerals- resulting in weaker bones, damaging the organs, damaging the DNA which in turn increases the rate of aging and degeneration, modifying gene expression, damaging cell membranes so they don’t respond properly, interfering with hormones- causing imbalances and impairing your ability to detoxify. Our practitioners teach all of our community that you MUST treat the systems, not the symptoms. In looking at the gentleman mentioned earlier, we must help treat the lymphatic system as a priority. From there, we will also work with the other systems of the body, rather than treat the symptom which is the swelling.

At Wholistic Natural Health, we have been able to help hundreds of people achieve sustainable wellness.

To combat blocked lymphatics or other effects of movement restriction, we offer a bonus coaching call with each Health Strategy Session booked. Take our free root cause analysis or contact us and use the subject ‘MOVEMENT’ to secure your bonus session.
